Orthopedic Oncology and Sarcoma Surgery in New York City at Mount Sinai Medical Center

James C. Wittig, MD, is Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Chief of Pediatric and Adult Orthopedic Oncology and Sarcoma Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City as well as Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey. Dr. Wittig is an orthopedic oncologist and sarcoma surgeon who specializes in limb-sparing surgery; pediatric and adult bone and soft tissue sarcomas; melanoma; benign bone tumors; benign soft tissue tumors as well as complex hip and knee replacement surgery. He also has special expertise with regard to tumors that affect the shoulder girdle and scapula. At Mount Sinai, Dr. Wittig has developed an orthopedic oncology and sarcoma team composed of several colleagues from different specialties who meet regularly and collaborate to provide extraordinary multidisciplinary care for patients diagnosed with a benign or malignant musculoskeletal tumor or sarcoma. Dr. Wittig has established several satellite offices in New Jersey and Long Island to help facilitate initial consultations and postoperative follow up surgical care for patients close to their homes. He also collaborates with several colleagues in New Jersey and Long Island to provide additional non-surgical care that may be required close to home, for instance at the John Theuer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, Hackensack, NJ and the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ.

In general, for most procedures, following surgery, you will return for a follow-up visit to the office approximately 10 days to 2 weeks after your release from the hospital. At this time, your sutures or staples will be removed as long as the wound is healing appropriately.
